Being aware of mental health helplines is extremely important and something we strongly believe in at Avalon Malibu. You never know when you or someone you know may have a mental health crisis. Knowing about the different helplines can provide you with peace of mind and help you be prepared. In this blog, we’re going to go over some helplines to consider if you’re currently struggling with your mental health or want to be prepared for the future.
Important Mental Health Helplines
There are many different helplines out there. This list is certainly not comprehensive. However, it is a good place to start if you haven’t heard of many helplines that are out there.
988
One of the best resources our Avalon Malibu team recommends to consult is 988. You can text or call this number and you’ll be connected with an expert. They can listen to your situation and provide you with some options for helpful next steps. This is also a great way to figure out what resources might be available to you in your situation.
911
While calling 911 may not be specific to mental health emergencies, that is one of the reasons that people call. If you or someone you know is in danger because of a mental health crisis, then calling 911 is one of the best ways to get help quickly. While 911 may not be a good resource for someone who simply wants a listening ear, it can be a good option if you need a quick response or help at your specific location.
NAMI
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a mental health organization that can provide some amazing resources. While they’re not a helpline that you can call, their website could be your first stop after calling a helpline. Consulting NAMI resources can be a great way to make sure that you’re on the right track and that you’re getting the support you need to improve your own personal mental health situation.
We understand that struggling with your mental health can sometimes feel isolating or like there aren’t any possible solutions.
