At Avalon Malibu, we strongly believe in the importance of our clients having a supportive home environment. By creating this type of environment, individuals can set themselves up for success and reduce the chances of relapse. In this blog, we’re going to go over some ways that you can create a supportive home environment.
Creating a Supportive Home Environment
There are a few different things that you can do to be intentional about creating a supportive home environment. Below are some strategies you can use if you’re looking to do this.
Set Boundaries
One of the most important things you can do in a home environment is to set boundaries. If you live with other people, be sure that they understand where you are in your recovery journey and how they can support you. Consider asking them not to use substances around you. Even better, consider asking if they can remove substances from your house entirely.
Eliminate Distractions
As we just mentioned, consider removing all substances from your home. At Avalon Malibu, we strongly believe in removing yourself from situations that have distractions like substances. By removing substances from your home, you can reduce the chances of a relapse. If you are going to have substances in your home, then it’s important that you set clear boundaries with yourself regarding them. While this is possible, it’s definitely not ideal, and removing substances entirely is the best-case scenario for most people.
Ongoing Treatment
If you want to invest in creating a supportive home environment, it can be helpful to work with a therapist. We have a variety of therapists available at Avalon Malibu and we love being able to empower our clients. Working with a therapist can be a great way to make sure that your home life is in order, so consider if working with a specialist could be helpful for you.
